The below Facebook message was sent out to the neighborhood watch group “Canoga Canyon Neighbors” regarding the home invasion last night that occurred around the corner from their area.
Hello Neighbors-
I want to pass along important information to everyone in the area. Last night (Monday) 10/14 at approximately 6:50pm, there was a home-invasion robbery on Rios Street, between Canoga Avenue and Saltillo Street, in the little “Girard Tract” cottage. My understanding is no one in the home was harmed, however, a male was held at gunpoint while the home was burglarized. CBS2/KCAL9 was here for a good part of the evening getting the story, so I am attaching their link below this email. I’m sorry I don’t have any more details.
One of the policemen on the scene spoke to a group who were outside as they were investigating. He told us that more and more of these types of robberies are taking place throughout the area and some of the best things we can do is know our neighbors, know what cars belong and don’t belong, never open your door unless you are 100% sure of the person on the other side, and call the police if you are at all concerned.
Call the LAPD non-emergency lines and give them the information:
*If you are calling from a “land” line, dial 311
*If you are calling from a mobile phone, dial 1-877-ASK-LAPD (1-877-275-5273)
*And, of course, if it is truly an emergency, dial 911
