Instructions on how to sign up for public comment will be given to listeners at the start of the meeting. When calling-in telephonically\, the public is requested to dial *9\, when prompted by the presiding officer\, to address the Board on any agenda item before the Board takes an action on an item.  Zoom users should use the “raise hand” feature. \nAB 361 Updates: Public comment cannot be required to be submitted in advance of the meeting\, only real-time \npublic comment is required. If there are any broadcasting interruptions that prevent the public from observing or hearing the meeting\, the meeting must be recessed or adjourned. If members of the public are unable to provide public comment or be heard due to issues within the Neighborhood Council’s control\, the meeting must be recessed or adjourned. \nAny messaging or virtual background is in the control of the individual board member in their personal capacity and does not reflect any formal position of the Neighborhood Council or the City of Los Angeles. \n*PUBLIC INPUT ON AGENDA ITEMS – The public may address the Board on any agenda item before the Board takes an action on an item. Presentation by Nathanial Shin\, LA Unified Student Board Member. (10 Minutes & Q&A) \n7. Presentation by Brent Smiley – Educator Sherman Oaks for Enriched Studies and Social Studies. Brent will cover about Charter Funds\, owed that are current\, owed that are past due\, written off\, in dispute\, and collected for the preceding 12 months from individual San Fernando Valley Charter School. \n8. Presentation by Juan Vega semi-retired musician and educator. The importance of music education in our schools. \n9. Discussion and Possible action – The Education Committee asks the WHWCNC to pass a motion directing the preparation of a letter to LAUSD requesting an accounting of funds; billed\, owed that are current\, owed that are past due\, written off\, in dispute\, and collected for the preceding 12 months from individual San Fernando Valley Charter School. The accounting should breakdown funds that are owed to the district and separately funds that are owed to SFV LAUSD schools. \n  \nA letter to LAUSD Superintendent  \nMr. Alberto Carvalho\, \nSuperintendent LAUSD \n333 S. Beaudry Ave\, \nLos Angeles\, CA 90017 \n  \nDear Mr. Carvalho: \nAll the members of Woodland Neighborhood Councils Education Committee are 100% in Agreement with VANC (Valley Alliance Neighborhood Councils) the motion that was passed during their regular meeting on 11 AUG 2022. We want an immediate accounting of the funds due to our schools. \nWe want our local schools to be refunded the money lost because of charter holds. With that in mind\, WHWCNC is asking for an accounting\, by valley schools\, of what money is due back to that particular schools and when they can expect to receive the funds. \nOur parents are upset that they lost classroom/ cafeteria space and now they want to be reimbursed for that unused space. They have need of those funds for their children and are anticipating a speedy reply. \nSuperintendent LAUSD \ncc: Scott Schmerelson \ncc: Nick Melvoin \ncc: Kelly Gonez \nLAUSD Board of Education \n10. Update on the school certificate of Recognition. Let us decide a time to drop to hand out the certificates to the school. (Education Chair – Mihran Kalaydjian) \n11. Discussion and Possible action Neighborhood Purpose Grant for the benefit of Calabash Charter for $4\,653. This grant will be used to directly pay for the necessities of providing science education and opportunities for learning for a public elementary school in Woodland Hills through the purchasing of mobile field trips (presentations provided on campus) from Discovery Cube. \n12. Discussion and possible action to Move that the education committee WHNC reach out to our schools in obtaining information as to how our committee can be of service to the schools.Recognizing the financial limitations of our Council\, we can meet with the school leaders and establish communication/team effort for the upcoming school year.
